An aging machine park is not just a technical problem. It is a strategic risk that affects operational continuity, safety of people, and competitive advantage.

In a world where components disappear from the market faster than investment budgets change, and knowledge of systems leaves with experienced employees – you need to not only react but act proactively.

This training will teach you how to systematically manage the risk of machine aging, create strategies for extending the life of infrastructure, and make informed decisions: to maintain, upgrade, replace, or… substitute with another solution?

We do not offer advices - we provide you with a model of actions that has proven effective in many industrial plants. We will show you how to conduct an analysis, how to communicate with management, how to engage maintenance and production teams, and how to turn a “problematic machine park” into a source of value.

Key benefits for the participant

You will learn how to assess the risk of machine aging from a technical and business perspective.

You will get to know specific methods and tools for analysis (risk matrices, obsolescence maps, criticality assessment).

You will build an action plan for your organization: what to maintain, what to replace, what to substitute with a service.

You will strengthen your position as a technical leader – data-driven, not intuition-based.

You will receive a complete set of materials, checklists, and matrices to use right after the training.

The training is intended for:

  • Managers and leaders of technical departments / maintenance / investments
  • Planning engineers, reliability engineers, asset management
  • Technical and operational directors responsible for production assets
  • Specialists in upgrade projects, investments, and CAPEX/OPEX strategies

Training Program – 2 Days

The training is divided into 5 focused modules, each containing practical tools, case studies, and workshops to work on your own facility.

MODULE 1: Introduction – Aging Machines as a Strategic Risk

  • Aging of machines: technical, organizational, and market definition
  • Differences between wear, obsolescence, and loss of manufacturer support
  • Risks arising from aging infrastructure – downtimes, safety, availability of parts
  • Impact of aging on operational and strategic decisions in a manufacturing company

MODULE 2: Identification of Critical Assets and Risk Assessment

  • Methods for identifying critical machines and systems (criticality, impact, cost of failure)
  • Analysis of aging symptoms – data from CMMS, observations, technicians' knowledge
  • Building a technical risk matrix – impact × probability
  • Workshop: assessment of the condition of selected machines based on participants' examples

MODULE 3: Mapping Obsolescence and Plan of Actions

  • Creating a map of obsolescence – systems, components, software, know-how

  • Categorization: OK / AT RISK / OBSOLETE – and what next?

  • Prioritization of actions: quick wins, critical actions, long-term actions

  • Documenting the plan – how to present technical data clearly for decision-makers

MODULE 4: Decision Making – What to Keep, What to Replace?

  • Decision scenarios: repair, upgrade, replacement, discontinuation, external service

  • How to combine technical data with cost analysis (CAPEX vs OPEX, TCO, operational risk)

  • Case study: decision-making with a limited budget – workshop

  • The role of the technical manager in dialogue with management and finance

MODULE 5: Implementing the Machine Obsolescence Management Process

  • Integration with existing processes: CMMS, maintenance planning, budgeting

  • Creating of indicators (KPI, obsolescence index, risk maps)

  • Communication and awareness among technical and production teams

  • Action plan after training – framework for implementing the process in your organization
